The department "Space for Mobility and Transport" develops methods, measures and tools for the design and assessment of networks, infrastructures and spaces for transport and traffic.
Our goal is a socially, ecologically and economically sustainable transformation of mobility and transport. To this end, we analyze and model interrelationships between needs, offers, resulting behavioral routines and traffic in relation to spatial and network structures in neighborhoods, cities and regions.
For this purpose, we collect and describe socio-demographic data in large data sets, model and synthesize population and household structures for specific observation areas, and simulate mobility behavior in a credible manner.
Using sound scientific expertise, we describe and plausibilize future scenarios of networked, digitized, and automated transportation and forecast demand for mobility and transportation at the local, regional, and supraregional levels.
We identify potentials for the transformation and future-proof design of networks and spaces in mobility and transport systems, design methods for the selection, evaluation, and implementation of measures and transformation paths, and develop concrete, exemplary solutions. We implement these in combination with research results for means of transport and transport markets & offers in virtual and real-world environments.
On a supra-regional level, we develop solutions for the conception, dimensioning and evaluation of sustainable, resilient transport networks and infrastructures. For the networking of smart cities and regions, this includes integrated traffic, area and real estate planning. And at the local level, this includes redesigning land use in neighborhoods to create livable places.
