IN THE ORINOKO PROJECT, THE PROCESSES OF A NEW, ADAPTIVE CONTROL STRATEGY FOR PRIVATE TRANSPORT AND LOCAL PUBLIC TRANSPORT FOR THE NUREMBURG CORRIDOR BETWEEN THE AIRPORT, CITY CENTER AND THE TRADE FAIR/FRANKENSTADION/ARENA EVENT FACILITIES, AS WELL AS ALONG THE APPROACH ROADS FROM THE A3, A6 AND A9 FREEWAYS TO THESE EVENT FACILITIES, WILL BE DESIGNED AND IMPLEMENTED IN A FIELD TEST. A CENTRAL QUESTION POSED BY THE PROJECT IS TO WHAT EXTENT THE NEW TRAFFIC LIGHT CONTROL SYSTEMS AND HIGH QUALITY INTER-MODAL TRANSPORT INFORMATION ARE CAPABLE OF OPTIMIZING TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT AND TO WHAT EXTENT THE DEMANDS ON TRANSPORT CAN BE CONTROLLED.
STUDIES WERE CARRIED OUT DURING THE TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT PROCESS ON THE ECONOMIC EFFECTS OF IMPLEMENTING THE CONTROL STRATEGIES IN THE NUREMBERG TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT CENTER, AS WELL AS ON THE ACCEPTANCE LEVEL OF THE USERS.
THE INSTITUTE OF TRANSPORT RESEARCH IS CURRENTLY WORKING ON WORK PACKAGE 400, 'TRAFFIC CONTROL USING INFORMATION TRANSMITTED TO MOBILE DEVICES', WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THIS PROJECT. THIS AIMS TO ASCERTAIN THE DEGREE TO WHICH THIS INFORMATION IS ACCEPTED AND COMPLIED WITH, AND HENCE THE DEGREE TO WHICH TRANSPORT INFORMATION SERVICES ARE EFFECTIVE IN INFLUENCING BOTH PRIVATE TRANSPORT PARTICIPANTS AND COMMERCIAL DRIVERS. THIS WILL FORM THE BASIS FOR FUTURE TRANSPORT CONTROL SUPPORT MEASURES BY DIRECTING TRANSPORT DEMAND.
TRANSPORT INFORMATION SERVICES DEVELOPED WITHIN THE SCOPE OF THIS PROJECT WILL BE SUBJECTED, AMONG OTHER THINGS, TO FIELD TESTS DURING THE COURSE OF THIS PACKAGE.
