In achieving the German government's goal of putting one million electric vehicles on the road in Germany by 2020, company vehicles in particular play a major role, accounting for nearly 62% of first registrations. In this regard, the National Platform for Electromobility (NPE) determined that the use of electric vehicles in car-sharing models and other fleets is particularly well suited for market introduction.
User acceptance is the key to the success of electromobility and the basis for a sustainable lead market in Germany. Suitability for everyday use, costs of use, charging behavior and ensuring ecological properties are key criteria here. As part of these political goals, a procurement initiative for vehicles with CO2 emissions of less than 50 g/km for fleets was included in the government's electromobility program. These impulses are to be actively carried to municipalities but also to private fleet operators as well as interested citizens in order to achieve a multiplier effect of the planned activities.
Project
The German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety is subsidizing 45 percent of the additional costs of an electric vehicle or a plug-in hybrid compared to a conventional vehicle with a combustion engine as part of InitiativE Berlin-Brandenburg.
The project is aimed at companies, institutions and public bodies from Berlin and Brandenburg that want to electrify their fleets. Fleet managers from the capital region can lease electric cars or plug-in hybrids of their choice as usual and benefit from the financial support. By participating in the project, electric vehicles become more affordable for fleet operators. The companies also receive statements on the profitability of vehicle use and achieve high visibility through targeted publicity measures.
Goals
Within the framework of the project, the DLR - Institute of Transport Research (IVF) is investigating the environmental impact for the region and the profitability of the use of electric vehicles from the perspective of the participating companies. The client as well as the lessees benefit from the results of the accompanying research, which deals with the following topics, among others:
At the same time, the sister project InitiativE-BW is taking place in Baden-Württemberg with up to 300 electric cars. The IVF uses the synergies of both projects for analysis and user recommendations.
