Institute of Combustion Technology

The Institute of Combustion Technology carries out research and project work on the design principles of technical combustion processes. The main goals are
  • Reducing the emissions of pollutants such as soot, nitrogen, unburned hydrocarbons and CO2
  • Increasing reliability, especially regarding ignition, extinction and thermoacoustic oscillation in transient combustion
  • Promoting the effective and sustainable use of new, unconventional fuels
  • Developing and optimizing burner and combustion chamber systems
The Institute of Combustion Technology employs about 90 members of staff. Working groups are mainly based in Stuttgart but the Institute also maintains a sub-office in Cologne.
