Thermal barrier coatings
- manufacture of metallic and ceramic coatings by EB-PVD (typical thickness 5 to 300µm)
- development, testing and qualification of evaporation material (ingots)
- improvement of coatings, e.g. for increased application temperatures, reduced thermal conductivity and prolonged lifetime
- testing of lifetime under thermo-cyclic or thermo-mechanical loading including determination of failure mechanisms
- analytical characterization of coatings (SEM, TEM, EDX, XRD, oxidation properties etc.)
Oxidation protective coatings
- manufacture of coatings by magnetron sputtering (e.g. for Ti alloys) with typical thickness of the coatings between 10nm and several µm
- development of coatings, e.g. for increased operating temperatures of Ti alloys and Ti aluminides, maintenance of the mechanical properties of the base metal, and optimized life
- testing of lifetime under isothermal or thermo-cyclic conditions, determination of oxidation properties, evaluation of failure mechanisms
