Thermal barrier coatings

  • manufacture of metallic and ceramic coatings by EB-PVD (typical thickness 5 to 300µm)
  • development, testing and qualification of evaporation material (ingots)
  • improvement of coatings, e.g. for increased application temperatures, reduced thermal conductivity and prolonged lifetime
  • testing of lifetime under thermo-cyclic or thermo-mechanical loading including determination of failure mechanisms
  • analytical characterization of coatings (SEM, TEM, EDX, XRD, oxidation properties etc.)


Oxidation protective coatings

  • manufacture of coatings by magnetron sputtering (e.g. for Ti alloys) with typical thickness of the coatings between 10nm and several µm
  • development of coatings, e.g. for increased operating temperatures of Ti alloys and Ti aluminides, maintenance of the mechanical properties of the base metal, and optimized life
  • testing of lifetime under isothermal or thermo-cyclic conditions, determination of oxidation properties, evaluation of failure mechanisms
  • analytical characterization of coatings (SEM, TEM, EDX, XRD, oxidation properties etc.)

 

Light  metal composites

  • Manufacturing of prototypes and components of fibre reinforced titanium
  • Coating of monofilaments with different metal alloys
