ICT management at DLR is coordinated by the central ICT organisational unit. Its tasks range from managing strategy relating to the architecture, development, planning and control of the ICT infrastructure through to knowledge and information management as well as IT security. At the same time, ICT management also coordinates work with the IT service provider and the ongoing modification of the services provided to meet the requirements of the DLR facilities. In addition, ICT management coordinates work between the central organisation and the other IT divisions.
Implementation of IT governance
Proposals for modifications and expansions are put forward by a network of local IT managers at the institutes. The managers pass their requirements to five local committees that, in turn, pass them on to the central IT committee. The standards settled upon in the committees are then adopted by the individual facilities and audited regularly by ICT management.
The areas of responsibility for ICT management are shown above (Image 2). The decisive factor here is the close interlocking of functions, which leads to fast and efficient solutions even in complex problem situations. Such direct collaboration enables the implementation of an integrated framework concept referred to as IT governance.
