High Performance Computing is a key enabler for the numerical simulation of aerodynamics of aircraft, spacecraft and components. The essential need of tailored HPC-systems in aerospace requires a close cooperation with providers of these systems. The HPCN-Workshop has a long tradition and was formerly organized by T-Systems mainly for participants from the German Aerospace Center (DLR). It was first introduced with the intent to inform HPC-users in DLR about the developments and trends in HPC hard- and software and to showcase the use of HPC in German aerospace research as well as to familiarize technology-providers with DLRs’ needs in the field. Organizing this workshop for the first time as a Euro-Par Workshop offers an excellent opportunity to enhance the visibility of the aerospace-related HPC-activities within the HPC-community on the one hand and the Euro-Par conference within the aerospace community on the other hand.
The “HPCN in AeroSpace” workshop comprises contributions from aerospace research and from HPC hard- and software providers. The presentations from aerospace research are on larger-scale applications employing HPC including specific requirements, achievements and limitations related to HPC. The keynotes given by the providers cover current and future development in HPC Hardware and Software.
The anticipated format of the workshop includes five contributed full papers and four keynote speakers from HPC Hard- and Software Providers (without paper and publication). Shorter contributions on application cases without a full paper can also be accepted, however, without later publication in the proceedings.

This resulted in the idea to broaden the basis of the workshop and to organize it for the first time as a Euro-Par Workshop, which offers an excellent opportunity to enhance the visibility of the aerospace-related HPC-activities within the HPC-community on the one hand and the Euro-Par conference within the aerospace community on the other hand.
In this context, the HPCN in Aerospace Workshop invites unpublished manuscripts from individuals or teams from academia, research institutes and industries on topics in the presentation of large-scale HPC-applications in aerospace focusing on performance and scalability aspects. The workshop seeks papers that report on specific requirements of the applied numerical simulation codes or other software methods concerning HPC-systems. An additional objective is to present HPC requirements of current and future challenges in aerospace research, e.g. data-driven methods including machine learning aspects, processing of big data and methods for efficient post-processing of large (numerical or experimental) data-sets.
The submissions will follow the Euro-Par guidelines, in PDF format, and should not exceed 12 pages in the Springer LNCS style. Paper submission is handled electronically (EasyChair). The 12-page limit is comprehensive (text, figures and references). All manuscripts will be reviewed and will be judged on correctness, originality, technical strength, and significance, quality of presentation, and interest and relevance to the conference attendees. Short papers and work-in-progress papers can be submitted and presented at the workshop, but they will not be eligible for the post-conference proceedings published by Springer where only full papers between 10 and 12 pages long will be published. Submissions will be reviewed by at least 3 members of the Program Committee. The workshop proceedings will be published in a LNCS Euro-Par 2019 Workshops volume after the conference. At least one author of an accepted paper must register for and attend the workshop for inclusion in the proceedings. Authors may contact the workshop program chairs for more information.
