Cutting Center

A cutting center has been installed at ZLP Augsburg to support highly automated pick-and-place processes for large aerospace structures. Different materials such as dry fiber or thermoplastic fabrics can be cut either sequencially or nesting optimised. In the next step, the blanks are deposited on a mobile transport pallet that can be docked automatically with a high degree of repeatability in a production cell. Another part of the cutting center is the drawer storage system, which can be used to buffer blanks for sequencial provision of a complete plybook in a robot cell. Through classification and parallel usage measurement, it is possible to control the stored materials in the roll storage.  This allows cutting jobs in progress to be interrupted and resumed later. In addition, a warning message is issued if the remaining material on a roll is not sufficient.

  • Intranet connection via OPC UA
  • ZÜND cutter with rotating or oscillating cutting tool
  • maximum cutting width of 3,200mm
  • gripper for sorting with 2,500 mm x 1,500 mm area
  • Transportable storage with eight drawers for blanks
  • Two RFID-coded transport pallets for single layers or complete sets
