At the site in Cottbus, DLR is expanding its expertise in energy research and aeronautics research with the Institute of Low-Carbon Industrial Processes and the Institute of Electrified Aero Engines.

The aim of the Institute of Low-Carbon Industrial Processes is to significantly reduce carbon dioxide and pollutant emissions from industry and power plants through the decarbonisation of energy-intensive sectors of industry and to promote sustainable power generation and storage.

The Institute for Electrified Aero Engines focuses its research on lower emission, generally more electrified future aircraft engines for civil transport aircraft. The scientific questions are oriented towards alternative aircraft engines, which have high requirements regarding intelligent control due to their significantly increased system complexity, but also have the potential to be more climate-friendly and quieter.
