Reconstruction and correction of the camera’s perspective
Information about the position of the orbiter and the precise location at which the camera was directed – known as ‘pointing’ – are assigned to the data by scientists on Earth. Images that were taken at significant distances and therefore include the edge of the moon can be corrected in this way, while the precise location of images captured in high resolution (close-ups) can then be adjusted precisely when comparing them to the images that do include the edge of the moon.
