'Contact with an asteroid' – DLR exhibition on the Hayabusa2 mission takes place at Bremen town hall

Starting on 10 July 2018, the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) will be staging a newly designed exhibition on the current Hayabusa2 and MASCOT mission in the Untere Rathaushalle (ground floor) of Bremen's town hall. The Japanese space probe Hayabusa2 recently reached the near-Earth asteroid Ryugu on 27 June 2018.

FireBIRD mission
The FireBIRD mission uses the two TET-1 (Technologie-Erprobungsträger 1;Technology Experiment Carrier 1) and BIROS (Bi-spectral InfraRed Optical System) satellites to detect high temperature events on Earth’s surface. They can also precisely capture small, low energy events thanks to the sensitivity of the sensors and the high precision and resolution.
Energy research
The energy system of the future must be sustainable. Ideally, it should not generate emissions that affect the climate or be at risk of major malfunctions or hazardous environmental impact. Energy should be economical and socially acceptable and its provision should be reliable. Required highly efficient technologies to produce and use this energy are the focus of the DLR energy research.
The European space laboratory Columbus
The Columbus laboratory, Europe's key contribution to the International Space Station ISS, is the first European space laboratory designed for ongoing multidisciplinary research in space. It installed on the ISS and put into operation on 11 February 2008.
Research aircraft
The German Aerospace Center (DLR) operates the largest civilian fleet of research aircraft and helicopters in Europe. The aircraft are stationed at DLR’s sites in Braunschweig and Oberpfaffenhofen.
