EDEN ISS greenhouse at the start of the polar night in Antarctica

365 days in Antarc­ti­ca, 257 of them cut off from the out­side world – Antarc­tic gar­den­er Paul Zabel from DLR test­ed veg­etable cul­ti­va­tion for the Moon and Mars in the EDEN ISS green­house, har­vest­ing pep­pers, toma­toes, cu­cum­bers and a wide va­ri­ety of let­tuces and herbs un­der ar­ti­fi­cial light. Paul Zabel re­turned to Ger­many in Jan­uary 2019.

365 days in Antarctica, 257 of them cut off from the outside world – Antarctic gardener Paul Zabel from DLR tested vegetable cultivation for the Moon and Mars in the EDEN ISS greenhouse, harvesting peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers and a wide variety of lettuces and herbs under artificial light. Paul Zabel returned to Germany in January 2019.
