IslandViz software visualisation in a virtual reality environment

DLR developed the IslandViz program to visualise software. The program depicts a virtual island landscape which represents a modularised software system. The islands represent the individual modules of the software system, with subordinate packages and classes. In addition, IslandViz can outline dependencies, imports and exports between the modules.

CFD simulation of a hybrid rocket engine

This Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation shows the temperature distribution within a hybrid rocket engine. In collaboration with the Institute of Aerodynamics and Flow Technology, the simulation data generated using the Advanced Hybrid Rocket Engine Simulation (AHRES) were interpolated on a structured grid, enabling the data to be further processed efficiently.

CosmoScout VR - Planning future missions

CosmoScout VR is a virtual 3D Solar System developed by researchers at the DLR institute of Simulation and Software Technology in Braunschweig. With the help of virtual reality technology, scientists can travel to distant places without leaving their workplace. One possible application is the joint planning of routes for rovers on other planets.

The mission of the Institute for Software Technology is research and development in software engineering technologies, and the incorporation of these technologies into DLR software projects. Current activities focus on software for distributed systems and intelligent systems, software technologies for embedded systems, visualisation, data science and high-performance computing.
