IslandViz software visualisation in a virtual reality environment

DLR de­vel­oped the Is­land­Viz pro­gram to vi­su­alise soft­ware. The pro­gram de­picts a vir­tu­al is­land land­scape which rep­re­sents a mod­u­larised soft­ware sys­tem. The is­lands rep­re­sent the in­di­vid­u­al mod­ules of the soft­ware sys­tem, with sub­or­di­nate pack­ages and class­es. In ad­di­tion, Is­land­Viz can out­line de­pen­den­cies, im­ports and ex­ports be­tween the mod­ules.

CFD simulation of a hybrid rocket engine

This Com­pu­ta­tion­al Flu­id Dy­nam­ics (CFD) sim­u­la­tion shows the tem­per­a­ture dis­tri­bu­tion with­in a hy­brid rock­et en­gine. In col­lab­o­ra­tion with the In­sti­tute of Aero­dy­nam­ics and Flow Tech­nol­o­gy, the sim­u­la­tion da­ta gen­er­at­ed us­ing the Ad­vanced Hy­brid Rock­et En­gine Sim­u­la­tion (AHRES) were in­ter­po­lat­ed on a struc­tured grid, en­abling the da­ta to be fur­ther pro­cessed ef­fi­cient­ly.

CosmoScout VR - Planning future missions

Cos­moScout VR is a vir­tu­al 3D So­lar Sys­tem de­vel­oped by re­searchers at the DLR in­sti­tute of Sim­u­la­tion and Soft­ware Tech­nol­o­gy in Braun­schweig. With the help of vir­tu­al re­al­i­ty tech­nol­o­gy, sci­en­tists can trav­el to dis­tant places with­out leav­ing their work­place. One pos­si­ble ap­pli­ca­tion is the joint plan­ning of routes for rovers on oth­er plan­ets.

The mission of the Institute for Software Technology is research and development in software engineering technologies, and the incorporation of these technologies into DLR software projects. Current activities focus on software for distributed systems and intelligent systems, software technologies for embedded systems, visualisation, data science and high-performance computing.
