The main focus of the Institute of Data Science in Jena relies on finding solutions for the new challenges of the digitalisation era. Research is being conducted into topics related to Data Management, IT Security, Smart Systems (Industry 4.0) and Citizen Science. This work complements established research areas at other DLR institutes and extends DLR's core competences. In line with the Institute's thematic focus, four departments have been established, subdivided into seven working groups, namely: Data Management Technologies, Climate Informatics, Visual Analytics, Machine Learning, Safe Software Technology, Digital Production Platforms and Citizen Science. Each working group is supported by other DLR institutes and works in close cooperation with partners from research and industry. This research is complemented by the Citizen Science Laboratory, which aims to bring closer the science to society.
