Energy research
The energy system of the future must be sustainable. Ideally, it should not generate emissions that affect the climate or be at risk of major malfunctions or hazardous environmental impact. Energy should be economical and socially acceptable and its provision should be reliable. Required highly efficient technologies to produce and use this energy are the focus of the DLR energy research.
Rosetta mission
In 2014, the Philae lander on board the European Rosetta spacecraft reached comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. The goal of this first landing on a comet was to learn more about the formation of the Solar System.

The High Altitude and LOng Range Research Aircraft (HALO) research aircraft heralds a new chapter in the history of German atmospheric research and Earth observation. The combination of range, cruising altitude, payload and comprehensive instrumentation make the aircraft a globally unique research platform.
