In traffic research, planning, and policy-making, there is a tremendous need for detailed information about traffic incidents and mobility behaviour. Consequently, there is an equally large and diverse range of statistics, empirical studies, and mobility research. Many relevant sources of data are known to only a small group of well-informed users or the usefulness of such data is limited by a lack of methodical supplementary information. The "Traffic Clearinghouse" at the DLR Institute of Transport Research serves as a centralized point of contact that closes this gap. The clearinghouse is oriented towards scientists and institutions that collect their own data as well as those who wish to take advantage of these research results. These include not just scientific institutions, but traffic planners and policymakers as well.
The data offering provides access to a large number of data sets. These include detailed meta data as well as references to potential uses and sources. While this meta-information is freely accessible, the owner of each data set must approve access to the data itself.
Data documented in the archive and intended for use are usually accessible for non-commercial usage in research and academia or under public contract upon payment of a one-time provision fee. However, additional charges may be incurred if commercial usage of the data is planned. In both cases, usage of the data is usually subject to special restrictions and the approval of the data owner. Information about applicable usage terms for individual cases is provided in the relevant data set descriptions (meta data).
Please use the provided order form when ordering data. Following agreement with the owner of the data, the released data is usually provided to the customer in the form of a CD-ROM sent via regular mail.
Irrespective of the intended use of the data (commercial/non-commercial) the "Transport Clearinghouse" will charge a provision fee in the amount of €100.00 per data set (plus VAT, fixed price at cost) for provision of the data. Data is provided according to the "General Terms and Conditions of DLR for Delivery and Performance" (general terms and conditions of DLR).
The "Transport Clearing House" gives scientists the ability to make their own mobility and traffic data or data portals accessible to a wider group of users.
What you can do
Nobody knows your data as well as you. You have valuable information needed to perform an effective secondary analysis, including original questions, investigation methods, processing procedures, and much more. You simply need to provide this information to the clearinghouse in a suitable form.
What we offer
Employees of the clearinghouse will work closely with you to handle technical preparations and depiction of available information. This includes in particular creation of the central meta data document. If desired, we will also handle forwarding of the data to third parties. Of course, you retain the sole power to decide who is granted the right to access the data.
