The Optical Communications Group at DLR-Oberpfaffenhofen investigates new technologies to increase the data throughput between Satellites and Ground Stations, by employing free-space optical (FSO) links.
Such advanced technologies require sophisticated setups in space- and ground-segment. However for relaxed requirements regarding data rate and reliability, and for testing of new space assets, more basic ground station assemblies appear feasible.
In this thesis a simplified setup for tracking LEO satellites employing standard algorithms and possibly further sensors, shall be implemented and tested.
