Your mission:

The research of the Vehicular Applications Group at the Institute of Communications and Navigation is focused on communication and localization of vehicles. Our vision is autonomous driving vehicles for road and railway traffic.

A big step towards autonomous trains is dynamic coupling. This application replaces the mechanical coupling of two trains with a communication link and distance control. Therefore, ultra reliable and low latency communication and accurate distance estimation between the electronic coupled trains is crucial.

Extensive measurements with two high speed trains were performed to characterize the channel impulse response (CIR) for train-to-train communication links. Based on those measurements an algorithm should be developed and evaluated to estimate the distance between two high speed trains from the CIR.

A comparison study between those results and the distance measurements from a RADAR should be performed.

Your qualifications:

  • good mathematical/signal-processing background
  • excellent Matlab and C/C++ programming knowledge
  • independent working
  • good English (written and spoken)
