The DLR Space Administration is responsible for the development and implementation of the German Space Program on behalf of the German Federal Government. The German space program activities include the National Program for Space and Innovation, the DLR Research and Development Program, as well as the German contributions to the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Meteorological Satellite Organization (EUMETSAT).

The Product Assurance and Safety department of the DLR Space Administration is responsible for the definition and controlling of product assurance activities for and acceptance of equipment and satellites that the DLR Space Administration or German national government grant and state funded research and technology development projects intend to launch into space or shall be brought to the ISS. The department has the role of the client and is aiming for a modern quality control system, established between client and contractor. On the basis of the European Space Standards (ECSS) and taking into account other well-established standards (e.g. ISO), product specific individual requirements for product safety are stipulated in the contracts and are checked and accepted on completion over the project term.

In particular, in order to ensure safe operation as well as information and cyber security in national and international space projects, related requirements ("ground segment" and "space cyber and data security") are implemented in the projects / projects. Compliance with the contractually agreed services and the project-specific requirements is verified by checking the performance records and activities over the entire project life-time.

As an employee in the Product Assurance and Safety department, you will have the following tasks:

  • products Assurance and Safety Management for the ground segment as well as space cyber and data/information security in DLR's space projects
  • conduct and implementation of PA/QA technical support for the projects
    • ongoing higher-level monitoring of quality management and product and quality assurance for the development and production of specified hardware and software components
    • release of product and quality assurance measures
    • release of implementation approval for as well as monitoring and control of the ground segment and space cyber and data/information security programs to the contractor
    • higher-level (client-side) qualification and test monitoring and support for the specified hardware, software and security components
    • identification of deviations from the technical requirements
    • release of corrective measures in the event of discrepancies or errors
    • responsible representation of product and quality assurance, especially measures for the ground segment as well as space cyber and data/information security, towards project management, contractors of DLR, launcher and space agencies
  • check of reports and certificates etc. and active participation in reviews throughout the life cycle of projects for verification of the contracted services
    • evaluation and assessment of ground segment and space cyber and data security analyses
    • evaluation of operating, installation and transport instructions
  • conduct of hardware, software and security inspections
  • acceptance and operation release of ground segment and security systems and its applications
  • detailed compilation and tailoring of project specific ground segment and space cyber and data/information security requirements
  • conduct and implementation of PA/QA technical support for projects in contract negotiations with contractors, space agencies and other partners of the DLR
  • review and evaluation of offers with respect the ground segment and space cyber and data/information security measures, and assessment of the quality capability of the contractor
  • conduction of project-related pre-audits (supplier evaluation)
  • support for the operations teams when security-relevant situations occur

Your qualifications:

  • scientific or engineering university degree at master level in aerospace engineering, physics, satellite geodesy, information and cyber security or equivalent qualification
  • demonstrable and up-to-date experience in the required field of expertise
  • comprehensive knowledge of relevant national regulations for the operation of ground facilities and / or Information & cyber security in facility Operation; long-term practical work and experience is preferred
  • relevant professional experience in the field of ground segment and / or cyber and information security; long-term practical work and experience is preferred
  • relevant experience in the field of product and quality assurance; intimate knowledge of relevant national regulations for the operation of ground facilities and / or information & cyber security in aerospace or space facility operations is desired
  • knowledge and experience in the application of relevant regulatory frameworks (ECSS, MIL, DIN, ISO, VDI)
  • knowledge and experience in risk management, fault analysis and methods and tools of product and quality assurance
  • good English and German skills in written and spoken language
  • good knowledge of a second foreign language is desired
  • high degree of self-responsibility, results-oriented action, team skills, initiative and communication skills, ability to interdisciplinary cooperation as well as sense of responsibility and willingness to cooperate in domestic as well as
  • international teams
  • competent handling of MS-Office products
  • willingness to frequent missions
  • Willingness for security check acc. Federal Security Review Act is required.
