Join us in shaping the future of driving in Verkehr 5.0! Work with us on numerous national and international projects, in collaboration with the automotive industry and our research partners, to develop methods and tools for testing highly automated and co-operative vehicles in order to increase safety, efficiency and comfort in road traffic, including urban and emergency situations.

Within the framework of this doctorate, based on the existing tool chains and methods, application scenarios are to be researched which describe the utilization of simulation and testing on real test routes, thereby distinguishing them from one another or establishing the relationship between them. The validation of simulation modules by means of real data should also be thereby considered.

The tasks therefore range from requirements analysis, through conceptual design and on to the development of innovative methods and the determination of requirements for relevant tools. The possibilities of evaluation and testing from both the human and the technology-centred point of view should also be taken into consideration. The focus is thereby placed upon the test and the safeguarding of road vehicles. The consideration of findings from, for example, the field of rail vehicles should, however, also be additionally observed in the analyses.

For your research, DLR will provide you with access to its own integrated tool chain with numerous simulators, automated test vehicles and research infrastructure in the field, such as the Intelligent Mobility (AIM) application platform or the Testfeld Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony test field). To achieve your goals, you will work in an interdisciplinary team with computer scientists, engineers and ergonomists and can draw upon the experience of psychologists in the joint execution of human-subject studies. Your qualifications:

  • completed studies at university level (master or diploma) in the field of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or comparable engineering sciences
  • experience in programming using C/C++
  • sound knowledge in the field of simulation
  • sound knowledge in the field of vehicle security systems
  • knowledge in the field of proving-ground tests
  • good command of German and English, both spoken and written
  • a passion for innovative research, scientific and systematic working methods, motivation and commitment
  • understanding of complex relationships and analytical approaches
  • knowledge of specific simulation environments (e.g. VTD) is an asset
  • knowledge of software engineering tools, such as JIRA, SVN, GIT, etc. is an advantage
