Technology Transfer and Patent Office (GTP-2020-TEC-ST)

ESA believes that the European  space  industry  should be  at  the  forefront of  innovation to  solve problems we face here, on Earth. The Technology Transfer and Patent Office (TTPO) facilitates and de- risks the technology transfer process by offering technical and financial support to the space industry.

The TTPO implements its mission by offering the following services:

Technology Transfer Services

  • identification of space technologies suitable for transfer (e.g. from ESA contracts)
  • answer non-space market needs
  • finance technology transfer demonstration activities

Technical support

  • provide access to ESA technical expertise

Patents

  • manage ESA´s patents portfolio & provide access to them

You will provide support to the team to identify and promote space-developed technologies and know- how that could find their way in other sectors than space. You may also be involved in the management of ESA’s patents portfolio, if you are interested.

We are a small team made of five hard working and dynamic people who enjoy sharing their experience with trainees and always strive to give them tasks that will allow their professional development. The TTPO has the mission to support the transfer of technologies stemming out from all ESA’s programme, therefore the applicant will have a chance to develop a large network by interacting with ESA and industry experts from the many different disciplines and technical fields.

Tasks:

You will be asked to identify space technologies and know-how with the following objectives:

  • build a technology/know-how catalogue stemming out of ESA R&D activities and programs
  • answer concrete market needs received from non-space companies
  • develop a network of space companies interested in technology transfer
  • develop an ESA TTPO network inside the ESA

To achieve this goal, you will be expected to:

  • discuss results of R&D activities with ESA technical experts
  • identify technologies for transfer and its potential non-space applications
  • contact space companies and space agencies
  • develop the Technology Descriptions in view of their promotion and matching with non-space needs
  • answer concrete market needs received from non-space companies
  • study the best route to market and initiate promotion actions
  • support to the rest of the team may be requested as needed

Your qualifications:

  • independent, organised, rigorous and pro-active
  • German citizenship is absolutely necessary
  • Applicants should have just completed (conclusion not older than two years) or be in their final year of a university course at Master’s level in law, business or a technical discipline.
  • Candidates must be fluent in English, the official languages of the agency.
