The Institute of Engineering Thermodynamics at DLR has more than 150 employees and conducts research in the field of efficient and resource-saving energy storage and energy conversion technologies of the next generation. In the "Energy Systems Analysis" division, we address a broad spectrum of issues related to energy economics and energy policy.

The aim of this thesis is to develop a macroeconomic model that allows for a sound analysis of the impact of energy and climate policies on different economic sectors and in turn quantifies the resulting implications for the energy system. Content wise the work should be aimed at a policy framework under discussion, for example the comparative investigation of various CO2 pricing options. The model will be developed in close cooperation with the system model environments of the energy and transport research fields at DLR. For this purpose, the dissertation will be co- supervised by one professor each from the field of energy and transport research. You will present the results of your research to the professional world through publications in internationally renowned journals and conferences, thus representing the Institute on a national and international level. The supervision of Bachelor's and Master's theses is possible and desired.

Your qualifications:

  • very good university degree in industrial engineering, economics, business informatics, or a comparable discipline
  • sound knowledge in the field of macroeconomic analyses
  • good programming skills, e.g. Python, R, Matlab, GAMS or a comparable environment
  • knowledge in the field of model development (especially operations research), the analysis of large amounts of data using statistical methods as well as in energy economics are advantageous.
  • strong analytical skills, personal initiative and ability to work in a team
  • strong communication skills in the verbal and written presentation of scientific results
  • very good knowledge of spoken and written English, knowledge of the German language is an advantage
