SpaceWire is a communication network nominated by the European Space Agency (ESA) to be the sole on-board communication network. It is designed to transmit both, application data (non-critical packets) and control information (critical packets) at the same time. Considering space constraints, designers used small buffers and implemented the wormhole protocol without virtual channels. However, these specifications may make the timing behavior of SpaceWire unpredictable.
SpaceWire is used in safety-critical applications, which require guarantees on the end-to-end timing constraints. Many papers addressed the problem of computing the best-case and worst-case end-to-end latency with a set of assumptions. In this work, we aim to build a SpaceWire simulator using OMNeT++ which reflects the state-of-the-art topology of SpaceWire. The simulator will be used then to perform a timing analysis of SpaceWire.
