DLR develops its own space missions and participates in national and international missions. The DLR Institute of Simulation and Software Technology researches and develops new software engineering techniques for the development of the onboard software for these missions. The focus is on (real-time) operating systems, driver development, middleware, command and data handling systems, attitude control and reconfigurable distributed systems. An important methodology is model-driven software development, which we apply in numerous missions and research projects.

Another important aspect is product assurance in software development. Space missions have very high demands on the reliability of the software and it is therefore important to consider product assurance in the entire development process. In the area of software product assurance, we are currently involved in the two ESA missions PLATO and JUICE, for example, and in the BECCAL experiment for the ISS.

We are looking for a new colleague who will advance our research and development in current and future missions in the field of software product assurance.

You will work on the following tasks as part of our team and with project partners:

  • responsible for software product assurance in national and international space missions
  • conceptual preparation and planning of new research projects on the subject of software product assurance
  • research and application of new methods for software product assurance to meet the high reliability requirements in space missions
  • evaluation and dissemination of research results
  • establishing of stable hardware-in-the-loop tests for continuous integration processes

Your qualifications:

  • You have an excellent Master's degree in computer science or similar disciplines.
  • You have experience in software product assurance.
  • You are an expert in object-oriented software development in C++.
  • You are a team player, creative and able to perform your tasks independently and self-motivated.
  • You speak and write English fluently (knowledge of German would be an advantage).
  • Experience in embedded programming is an advantage.
  • Ideally, you should have experience in the field of space product assurance (ECSS).
  • Knowledge in programming for Linux and real-time operating systems (e.g. RTEMS) is welcomed.
  • Knowledge of software engineering methods (Continuous Integration, Git, etc.) is an advantage.
