Over the past two decades, the Institute of Flight Guidance has achieved a worldwide leading position in the design, development and testing of air traffic controller support systems. The current focus is on the development of approach, en-route, ground and departure planning systems for aircraft with different automation levels. Both functional and non-functional requirements are considered for the systems, including resilience, system architecture and system design. In cooperation with international partners such as NASA and ENRI (Japan), the Institute is involved in the development of the operational air traffic management of the future. The implementation is carried out with the help of prototypes for assistance and automation functions as well as their human-machine interfaces. Manual software development is more and more supplemented or even replaced by machine learning methods. The evaluation of the concepts and systems is carried out with human-in-the-loop simulations in the institute's own simulation environment.

  • Personal responsibility for development of prototype software solutions integrated in complex software environments
  • Research and development of concepts to optimize traffic flows in air traffic
  • Development of concepts for controller working positions using innovative human-machine interfaces (e.g. speech recognition, 2D and 3D gesture recognition, gaze recognition, AI)

Your qualifications:

  • Completed academic studies in data science, business science, or related studies (diploma / master),
  • Strong knowledge of programming languages in Python, in C++
  • Good command of written and spoken English
  • Experience in the integration of software in complex software environments
  • Experience in the design and implementation of human-machine interfaces
  • Experience in the automation of complex processes
  • Experience in the field of machine learning
