The department of Maritime Security Technologies is dedicated to solving a variety of technological problems necessary for the implementation and testing of innovative system concepts for the protection of maritime infrastructures. This includes the development and demonstration of novel instruments and system functions which are capable of recording, evaluating and visualising the protection status of maritime infrastructures in real time and as far as possible automatically.

Become part of our team and contribute to the realisation of these new technologies together with other scientists. You can expect a diverse range of activities in the technology areas of sonar and radar. This will include the transfer of modern methods of radar technology into hydroacoustics and the experimental implementation of own concepts and processing methods above and below the waterline. Thus, you take an active role in the development, testing and analysis of innovative near and remote sensing systems. Hydroacoustic methods are unique in their ability to obtain underwater situation pictures with a long range.

Help us to realise innovative situation pictures by collaboratively developing methods for hydroacoustic remote sensing. Design, implement and validate algorithms for data processing of sonar and radar systems. Investigate the transferability of modern methods of radar technology to hydroacoustics and develop real-time capable systems whose performance significantly exceeds that of existing systems. In addition, develop novel experimental systems for use in both the laboratory and the field, in order to test validate and further develop your algorithms and methods experimentally.

Your qualifications:

  • completed scientific university degree (university diploma or master's degree) in electrical engineering, physics or comparable field
  • doctorate or proven ability to conduct independent research.
  • extensive professional experience in the field of sonar technology or extensive professional experience in the field of radar technology with experience in the field of sonar technology
  • excellent programming skills in both hardware-related and application-oriented languages and paradigms
  • in-depth knowledge in the field of system layout, system design and system manufacturing
  • etensive experience in carrying out research projects with partners from industry and research knowledge of machine learning and/or statistical modeling
  • excellent communication skills
  • mastery of the German and English languages, written and spoken is preferred
  • readiness for extended security clearance (Ü2) equivalent to "NATO/EU SECRET is preferred
  • experience in laboratory activities and in the publication of research results is desirable
  • experience in the preparation and implementation of project work is desirable
  • experience in the supervision of student theses is an advantage
  • knowledge of Linux is an advantage
