Implementation of a C library for state-space representation of control algorithms and setup of a validation breadboard

Free Space Optical (FSO) communications require control loops in order to steer the beam which transfers the information to its desired target. A dedicated software tool is required to streamline the process from developing these tracking loops up to finally implementing them into actual hardware. The goal of this work is to develop a reusable library for that purpose.

The detailed goals for the advertised work are:

  • implementation of a C library for state-space models
  • extracting block diagrams from Matlab/Simulink and transfer them into discrete time domain
  • implement communication from a microcontroller to a debug interface
  • setup a validation breadboard with hardware used in Cubesat communication terminals
  • verify the implementation by hardware in the loop tests

Your qualifications:

  • hands-on experience in embedded C programming for microcontrollers
  • experience in Matlab and Simulink
  • knowledge about the transformation process of differential equations into state-space representation
  • ability to read electrical schematics is a plus
  • experience with hardware projects at university or as a hobby is a plus
