For optical phase shift keying like BPSK modulation, a closed loop control is necessary to keep the modulator in its working point. The task of this master thesis is the design of an automatic bias control for BPSK modulation on photonic integrated circuits.

  • Literature research on possible algorithms
  • Analytical control design
  • Simulation of the control system in Matlab or similar
  • Implementation on CPU and/or on FPGA in VHDL
  • Assembly of the necessary hardware
  • Experimental evaluation of the BIAS control with bulk and PIC modulators

Your qualifications:

  • experience with control theory
  • experience in optical fibre communications
  • programming in Matlab / Python
  • experience in VHDL
