At the Remote Sensing Technology Institute several national and international projects in the field of airborne traffic and infrastructure monitoring as well as situational awareness using aerial camera systems are performed. An important part of these projects are digital camera systems (3K- 4k system), which in combination with an on-board processing unit and a high-performance and  powerful data link, enable real-time data analysis for traffic and infrastructure monitoring as well as situational awareness. The systems are certified on various aircraft (e.g., Cessna, Do228, EC-135) to be operational for real-world campaigns. The research work in this area is focused on the detailed detection of traffic-relevant objects and infrastructures mainly using artificial intelligence techniques (especially deep learning networks).
 
Your responsibilities include:
  • evaluation of scientific publications on object detection, semantic segmentation, change detection and object tracking based on deep learning
  • modification of deep learning methods for robust automatic semantic segmentation of aerial and satellite imagery data
  • implementation and testing of the algorithms and methods using benchmark datasets and current high-resolution optical image data, including DLR's own aerial image datasets
  • integration of the newly developed deep learning components into a prototype solution with subsequent process optimization
  • documentation of the methods and process flows 
  • preparation of scientific publications and reports

Your qualifications:

  • completed academic university studies in computer science or a related field
  • very good knowledge of at least 2 of the following programming languages: C/C++, Java, Python, Matlab, CUDA
  • knowledge of development environments: OpenCV, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Linux
  • experience in programming and using machine learning and specifically on deep learning techniques
  • experience in publishing peer-reviewed conference/journal papers
  • experience with digital maps e.g. HD maps in OpenDrive format and data from OpenStreet Map is a plus.
  • very good English skills
