The Institute of Flight Guidance holds a leading position worldwide in the research, development and testing of innovative assistance systems for air traffic controllers. Topics such as future fully automated and environment friendly management of air traffic are of key importance. We face these challenges together with our national and international partners from Europe, Japan, China and the USA such as NASA. Together we develop solutions by using the latest technologies from "A" for augmented reality, through artificial intelligence, machine learning to "V" for virtualization, with innovative approaches to the design of assistance and automation systems.

As part of our young, interdisciplinary team, you will implement such systems from conception through design to implementation of software prototypes and validate them in complex simulation environments. Modern software frameworks and technologies as well as methods and algorithms from the field of artificial intelligence are used.

To summarize, your tasks would include the following activities:

  • drafting of system designs and architectures as well as prototypical software solutions in various programming languages and frameworks
  • integration of the developed solutions in complex software environments
  • assessment and application of artificial intelligence methods in the context of air traffic management
  • validation of the developed systems in complex simulation environments
  • presentation of the work results at international conferences
  • participation in interdisciplinary, international teams

Your qualifications:

  • completed academic university degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related courses (diploma / master)
  • profound programming knowledge in C ++, JAVA or Python
  • good written and spoken German and English skills
  • experience in working with version control systems such as GIT as well as basic knowledge of software libraries such as Tensorflow, PyTorch or other machine learning libraries would be an added advantage
