Instead of only looking at individual vehicles and vehicle functions, our focus is on whole traffic systems. We therefore put emphasis on the interaction between different road users and the interaction between road users and surrounding infrastructure by considering and enhancing most recent developments esp. in terms of connectivity, digitalization and automation. In addition, finding optimal solutions for changing the mode of transportation wherever required are part of our research.

We are looking for a new employee (computer scientist, engineer) for the development and implementation of scientific and experimental prototypes in highly connected traffic systems. You will focus particularly on urban scenarios, where you will explore and develop new concepts of connectivity for automated driving and its traffic system interaction. Therefore, you will work on the following topics among others:

  • research and development on concepts, technologies and communication protocols of connectivity for automated driving and its traffic system interaction
  • performing system requirement analyses, development of system architectures, design and development of system drafts, software draft and software design, preparation of unit and integration tests and performing of system integrations
  • acquiring information about most recent science projects in the domain incl. journals, standards and specifications, national and international
  • implementation of functional prototypes on test sites and in real environments as well as demonstration of the functions at internal and external events
  • presentation and publication of results to project partners, the international community and the public

For your research, DLR offers you an integrated DLR-owned tool chain with numerous laboratories, (connected) simulators, automated test vehicles and research infrastructure in the field such as the Application platform for Intelligent Mobility (AIM) or the Test Bed Lower Saxony.

To achieve your goals, you work in an interdisciplinary team of computer scientists, engineers, and ergonomists and you rely on the experience of psychologists in conducting volunteer studies. You will encounter a stimulating research environment, plenty of room for own ideas and international visibility. You will take over tasks with high responsibility that help shape the European and national environment. Furthermore, DLR offers many attractive qualification and education opportunities, including to obtain a PhD if desired.

Your qualifications:

  • master degree in the fields of computer science, engineering or similar
  • knowledge in the field of concepts for cooperative and connected driving, e.g. CCAM, ITS-G5, ETSI ITS standards
  • experience with Java
  • experience in agile software development as well as CI/CD and DevOps methods
  • good English and German skills, both written and spoken
  • understanding of complex relationships and analytical procedures
  • willingness to travel on business
  • ability to present scientific results to a scientific community or the public
  • passion of innovative research, scientific and systematic way of working
  • experience in the field of V2X communication is a plus
