During your PhD you will utilize high-resolution ICON simulations (large eddy simulations – LES and cloud resolving simulations) to develop a quantum machine learning parameterization, and will implement the new parameterization into ICON. This will allow you to work with cutting-edge technologies to improve climate projections and ultimately help with the adaption to and mitigation of climate change.

The PhD students will be part of the Earth System Model Evaluation and Analysis Department at DLR-IPA. The department is strongly linked to international research activities within the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP), with substantial contributions to the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP), and also involved in the European Lab for Learning & Intelligent Systems (ELLIS).
