You are interested in doing practical and experimental work and want to contribute to the energy transition challenge? Join us with an internship or with a final thesis at the DLR institute of Future Fuels which focuses on the sustainable production of chemicals and fuels.
Moving away from fossil energy carriers, we develop pathways for the production of hydrogen and other synthetic fuels with renewable energy carriers. One of these pathways focuses on the production of hydrogen by using only water and the thermal energy of the sun. Other than hydrogen production via electrolysis, this process does not include an electrochemical step and has a high potential in terms of overall process efficiency. The process uses solid redox materials that are recycled within the process at elevated temperatures of up to 1500 °C. This innovative concept is currently under development within several projects at our institute addressing process simulation, experimental proof-of-concept and economic aspects.
A main core component of the process is an innovative heat exchanger/reactor which enables not only heat transfer but also a chemical reaction between a gas and solid particles. For the scale-up and optimization of this component, we are looking for support in our team.
Within the offered position, you will do experimental work, e.g. designing of a prototype or of a component of the prototype. This helps us to further improve our concept. Based on existing reactor concepts and on the wide experience of an intercultural working group, you will investigate the best possible designs of these components. Your work will be supported by own measurements and theoretical fundamentals. The results of your work will be directly incorporated in our on-going research efforts to produce solar fuels in a prototype reactor.
You will be closely integrated into our diverse and highly motivated team in the “Solar process demonstration” department located in Jülich. An experienced colleague will closely work together with you and support you throughout the entire internship or thesis. Your project will be aligned with the responsible professor of your university.
Look forward to a fulfilling job with an employer who appreciates your commitment and supports your personal and professional development. Our unique infrastructure offers you a working environment in which you have unparalleled scope to develop your creative ideas and accomplish your professional objectives. Our human resources policy places great value on a healthy family and work-life-balance as well as equal opportunities for persons of all genders (f/m/x). Individuals with disabilities will be given preferential consideration in the event their qualifications are equivalent to those of other candidates.
