The Master thesis work will be performed in the framework of Project SOLINT. In previous projects the possibility to produce the feedstocks (hydrogen and nitrogen) for the Haber-Bosch ammonia synthesis has already been investigated. The Master’s thesis work will look into the further steps of fertilizer production, focusing on NPK fertilizers. This involves the analysis of different end-products, production methods and their requirements in terms of energy and feedstocks. Concepts for CO2 capture and utilization are to be considered as well.
The main tasks of the Master’s thesis work include a thorough literature analysis and defining production flow sheets. The findings may be supported by laboratory-scale experimental work for materials screening. The student should gain a good understanding of the state-of-the-art processes and its limitations by reviewing the relevant literature of the field. The tasks require very good analytical skills, and interest in experimental work as well as evaluation of the results.
