The Institute of Transporation Systems develops solutions for user-oriented assistance and automated systems, operates a transportation data platform and analyses geodata for the creation and extension of the knowledge base. The systems implemented in this context are evaluated in simulations, in test fields or in real roads and railway tracks.
The operation of data management system for the acquisition, administration and provision of data is an essential building block for several projects carried out in the Institute. Through the wide research work, diverse data is generated, which must be correctly stored in data structures in order to be correlated later. This includes not only the data collected in the Institute, but also datasets from open data portals which are available for free. The data types include different road and railway networks, infrastructure elements, measurement data, weather data, trajectories and timetables.
The DLR Institute of Transportation Systems is extensively involved in the GAIA-X research initiative funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, in which the future-oriented data and service landscape GAIA-X is being developed. In addition to many economic sectors and industries, this also includes the mobility area, so that the Institute for Transportation Systems located in Braunschweig and Berlin is involved in its research and implementation. The institute is helping to shape large parts of the future of networked mobility in digital traffic. Help us to master the complexity of traffic systems and their increasing digitization, and be part of this creative process!
New, fully integrated transportation systems and system networks consisting of infrastructure, vehicle and passenger are emerging, which have so far been isolated and mostly act independently of each other. DLR is working on closing this gap, making traffic better and, above all, safer.
For the further development and integration of the data management systems developed in the institute, a computer scientist with profound experience in the field of data engineering and databases is wanted. An interest in distributed systems and the development of complex system architectures is preferable. The tasks include the enhancement and development of various data models in the areas of digital maps, measurement data and traffic data. They also include validation and extraction of metrics from the above data domains and enhancement of data management systems.
