5G mmWave Positioning Demonstrator

The communication standards 3GPP 5G NR and IEEE 802.11 aims to extend their applications beyond traditional mobile communication, where one of the fundamental features is precise radio-based positioning at mmWave frequencies. Applications like industry 4.0, autonomously driving cars and trains, or indoor localization will benefit from radio-based positioning.

Your tasks during this internship cover:

  • implement a cellular network simulation environment, ranging and positioning algorithms in MATLAB
  • assemble Software Defined Radios (SDRs) with mmWave RF-equipment
  • integrate the SDRs in the MATLAB simulation chain and perform test
  • investigation of ranging and positioning accuracy

Depending on the outcome of the internship, this topic can be extended as a master thesis.

Your qualifications:

  • excellent knowledge in communication theory and signal processing
  • excellent programming skills in MATLAB
  • good skills with SDRs
  • basic skills with Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGSs)
  • good English (written and spoken)
