Research into architectural concepts in GAIA-X

Starting date

immediately

Duration of contract

3 years

Remuneration

up to German TVöD 14

Type of employment

Full-time (part-time possible)

Become part of an interdisciplinary team of dedicated women and men who have transformed their passion for the digitalised mobility of tomorrow into their profession. Join us in developing, in collaboration with our research partners, highly automated transport systems on the road, rail and in the air within the scope of numerous national and international projects .

Through this call for applications, the Institute of Transportation Systems is searching for you as a software/system architect with a focus on architecture methodology for the working group "Architecture Principles and Platform Systems" to participate in the GAIA-X research initiative of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.

The main objectives of your mission are:

  • Evaluation of existing technical reference architectures of transport in GAIA-X (e.g. FiWare, International Data Space)
  • Development and implementation of technology compositions from existing and open software tools and modules for use in decentralised and federated platform landscapes, using GAIA-X as an example, within the framework of large projects with numerous participating companies and experts
  • Development and (partial) implementation of concepts for data space connectors (Eclipse Data Space Components - EDC) for data exchange within the framework of a to-be-developed mobility data space for GAIA-X
  • Prototypical implementation of previously developed system designs in a suitable DLR large-scale research facility or HPC centre (DLR or GAIA-X partner)
  • The scientific analysis of architecture-relevant methods such as system modelling, architecture evaluation and the determination of migration paths for architectures (architecture refactoring)
  • Investigation of possible evaluation metrics for software/system architectures regarding their qualitative assessment (e.g. SAAM, ATAM, ALMA)

For your research, you will be provided with access to the institute's own continuous tool chain with numerous laboratories, (interconnectable) simulators, automated test vehicles, and research infrastructure in the field. For the achievement of your objectives, you will work in an interdisciplinary team with computer scientists and engineers on pioneering projects of the German Federal Government and the EU.

We offer you a stimulating research environment, room for your own ideas, and international visibility. The possibility of a doctorate exists. Hybrid working between the DLR location and your home is possible (desk-sharing).

Your qualifications:

  • completed scientific university studies (diploma, master's degree) in the field of computer science, data science, communication systems engineering or comparable
  • several years of professional experience in the field of software modelling (e.g. UML, SysML or similar) and the designing of large systems.
  • several years of professional experience and specialised knowledge in the application of architectural design and modelling methods, in the evaluation of system and software architectures, and in the technologies International Data Space (IDS) and FiWare.
  • in-depth knowledge regarding the use of modelling and visualisation tools (e.g. Enterprise Architect, MS Visio, UML tools)
  • completed doctorate in the field of system analytics, system modelling or the subject area of system architectures or related subjects
  • proven scientific expertise in the field of technical architectures through relevant publications ( you are welcome to submit a list of publications)
  • you recognise yourself in the following description of your personality and have had multiple encounters with the following aspects during the course of your life:
  • with your professional expertise, particularly at an abstract conceptual level, you have acquired a broad knowledge base and are continuing to expand it with intrinsic motivation and enthusiasm, and would describe yourself as a generalist rather than a specialist
  • you are able to follow a discussion without any problems despite numerous changes of perspective, and enjoy debating multiple approaches to solutions, thereby drawing on your own aforementioned expertise
  • you enjoy working with unfinished ideas, developing ideas - also in moderated groups - and consider each proposal from different perspectives. You find it easy to intuitively integrate aspects and ideas from other - to you, unknown - disciplines into the collaborative solutions and to recognise and establish missing connections. You use these external professional impulses in order to incorporate them into your own professional repertoire. You are not afraid to communicate unfinished ideas and offer them to others for joint further development
  • you have often experienced your ideas being initially rejected by others as "too radical" or "unfeasible", yet these ideas can nevertheless be found in the final solution
  • working with models and concepts and visualising them is sufficient for you. You are happy to participate and to contribute your expertise towards the implementation of the concepts (e.g. in software development) within the team, but prefer to thereby fulfil an advisory role rather than an implementational one

Your benefits:

Look forward to a fulfilling job with an employer who appreciates your commitment and supports your personal and professional development. Our unique infrastructure offers you a working environment in which you have unparalleled scope to develop your creative ideas and accomplish your professional objectives. Our human resources policy places great value on a healthy family and work-life-balance as well as equal opportunities for persons of all genders (f/m/x). Individuals with disabilities will be given preferential consideration in the event their qualifications are equivalent to those of other candidates.
