Air traffic controller for a day

I test new technologies for air traffic control

My job is the perfect combination of computer science and aviation. I manage the Apron and Tower Simulator (ATS), where the work environment of air traffic controllers is realistically simulated. We develop and examine innovative air traffic control systems. My tasks are very varied – I prepare simulations beforehand, write scenarios, evaluate test results and program new features. Of course, as simulation manager I am present at every test series – sometimes even as a simulation pilot or air traffic controller.

I love…

… the independence and freedom that young scientists have at DLR. For example, I am able to autonomously test additional aspects that I may have noticed in the simulator. I also always enjoy working with colleagues from different disciplines. This opens up completely new perspectives.
