Linda Bolay's simulation supports experiments

I am a mathematician working on a model to support complex battery testing and experiments. When travelling through space, satellites need a great deal of energy – for control systems, sensors or cameras, for example. The necessary batteries are often tested for years before being launched into space because they must be extremely safe and reliable. My model, which simulates the exact chemical and physical processes that take place within the battery, will render such tests obsolete. After undergoing just a few tests, satellites could be launched into space much more quickly and cost-effectively.

I have even had the opportunity...

… to present my research for the international scientific community at two conferences. Getting feedback and sharing ideas about current events in my field with other scientists was a very interesting experience.
