The main focus of the Institute of Data Science in Jena relies on finding solutions for the new challenges of the digitalization era. Research is being conducted in topics related to Data Management, Secure Digital Systems and Citizen Science. This work complements established research areas at other DLR institutes and extends DLR's core competences. In line with the thematic focus of the institute, three departments have been established, subdivided as well into 7 working groups, namely: Data Management Technologies, Climate Informatics, Visual Analytics, Machine Learning, Safe Software Technology, Digital Production Platforms and Citizen Science. Each working group is supported by other DLR institutes and works in close cooperation with research and industry partners. This research is complemented with the Citizen Science Laboratory which aims to bring closer the science to the society.
