The Institute of Data Science

The main focus of the Institute of Data Science in Jena relies on finding solutions for the new challenges of the digitalization era. Research is being conducted in topics related to Data Management, Data Analysis and Data Acquisition. This work complements established research areas at other DLR institutes and extends DLR's core competences. In line with the thematic focus of the institute, three departments have been established, subdivided as well into 9 working groups, namely: Metadata Management, Information Extraction and Interoperability, Data Access and Processing, Machine Learning, Safe Software Technology, Causal Inference, Distributed Intelligence & Open Innovation, Applied Web- and Social Media-Data Analysis and Data Availability and Provision. Each working group works in close cooperation with other DLR institutes as well as with research and industry partners. This research is complemented with the DLR School Lab Jena which aims to bring closer the science to the younger generations.
