Data Management and Analysis

Conventional data management and evaluation procedures cannot keep pace with the current acquisition speed and amount of data. The goal of this department is to complement the research in new data management and data analysis techniques. The department currently has four main research areas: Data Management Technologies, Climate Informatics, Visual Analytics and Machine Learning.

Software Systems for Digitization

Changing into a digital society will also transform the way we understand technology and production systems. This movement towards ‘Industry 4.0’ involves the evolution from current pipeline concepts into digital platforms. This department is focused in the research and development needed to ensure that German space industry and technology adapts to these new standards.

IT Security

This department is focused on the analysis and development of tools to ensure the security in a highly networked world. This comprises security at different levels, from secure software and hardware to reliable remote connections to computer centers or cloud services.

Citizen Science

Citizen Science aims to support scientific research with the input of interested citizens. To ensure a fruitful citizen participation comprehensive research is required in the fields of data collection, semantic annotation, data quality evaluation and automated data analysis.
