Single image pair of the flow behind a wing, taken in about 1928. The image is superimposed with a false-colour representation of the vorticity, derived using modern particle image velocimetry. Ludwig Prandtl produced the films as visual aids during the 1920s and 1930s at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Flow Research, now the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization.
