Climate Commission Cottbus

Climate protection is becoming increasingly important and presents us with challenges that we can only overcome as a cross-sectional task together in all layers of society, science, politics as well as business. The city of Cottbus/Chóśebuz is committed to climate protection and the defined climate protection goals and intends to establish a Climate Commission, which will not only accompany the preparation of the climate protection concept, but also advise the bodies and the administration of the city of Cottbus/Chóśebuz in matters of climate protection and in the implementation of climate protection goals. In doing so, the Climate Commission shall promote the exchange between the public, politics, administration, economy and science.

The Climate Commission works independently and is to be established as a non-political body. It is composed of three voting members from each of the focal areas:

  • Science and research
  • Civil society groups
  • Economy and trade

who were initially appointed by the city councillors for the period during which the climate protection concept is being drawn up. Two representatives have been appointed in the focal point "civil society groups". For the concerns of the youth, one representative was appointed who was between 16 and 25 years old at the time of appointment. In addition, the thematic areas of the Integrated Urban Development Concept 2035.

covered by at least one member each. The committee works on a voluntary basis and the members will meet regularly, at least four times a year.

The City of Cottbus/Chóśebuz conducted the election of the Climate Commission for the candidates during the meeting of the City Council on May 31, 2023. The appointment of the mandate holders took place on June 19, 2023, in the Technical Committee for Economy, Participation and Structural Change. The elected persons represent a wide field of organizations, companies, institutions, associations and personalities of the city of Cottbus/Chóśebuz.
