DLR researchers as guests at the ASME Conference 2023
Members of our institute presented their research results at the "Turbo Expo 2023" in Boston in June. The conference gathers global experts in a wide range of technical fields and thus provides a unique platform to actively address the challenges in the field of propulsion and energy. It is organized by IGTI, i.e. the International Gas Turbine Institute.
The latest research results were discussed by a large audience last week, creating a basis for further research. For example, our institute colleague Robert Schaffrath reported on his research on an optimization procedure for the geometry of radial turbomachinery for steam. By using different substitute models, the result could be improved. The professional exchange with scientists from the field of turbomachinery optimization was particularly exciting for him and will be incorporated into his further research. Jens Gollasch gave a presentation on the current research results on multidisciplinary optimization of thermodynamic cycles with simultaneous design of turbomachinery and heat exchangers. In the long term, the application of these methods can contribute to a sustainable improvement of the design processes of industrial heat pumps and thus their efficiency.
Other papers from the High Temperature Heat Pump Department were presented by:
- Maximilan Kriese on "Part-Load Behavior and Start Up Procedure of a Reverse Rankine High Temperature Heat Pump with Water as Its Working Medium",
- Omar Abu Khass with his paper on "Modeling of Two-Phase Water Ejector in Rankine Cycle High Temperature Heat Pumps",
- Nancy Kabat on "Investigation on Process Architectures for High Temperature Heat Pumps Based on a Reversed Brayton Cycle," and
- Bojan Kajasa with his presentation "Numerical Investigation of a Thermally Perfect Gas Model for a Centrifugal Compressor Design with Water Vapor as Working Medium."
