Foundation “Lausitz Science Network” in Cottbus

On Wednesday, December 14, 2022, the association Lausitz Science Network e.V. (LSN) was founded in Cottbus. Initiated by the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg, the alliance consists of research institutions located in the region with the aim of jointly developing the strengths of the science location and increasing its visibility. DLR is one of the founding members of the alliance with the Institute of Low-Carbon Industrial Processes and the Institute for Electrified Aerospace Propulsion Systems.

The cooperating members aim to create and exploit synergies in order to provide the best possible environment for innovative and interdisciplinary cutting-edge research. The bundled energies are to benefit the promotion of young scientists, the recruitment of specialists, as well as the marketing of the science location. It is also planned to hold joint conferences and initiate collaborative scientific projects.

  • Ferdinand-Braun-Institut gGmbH, Leibniz Institute for Highest Frequency Technology

  • Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development, Cottbus Regional Development Competence Center

  • Competence Center Climate Protection in Energy Intensive Industries of the Future - Environment - Society (ZUG) gGmbh

  • Power-to-X Lab Lausitz, practical laboratory for fuels and basic materials from green hydrogen, of Zukunft - Umwelt - Gesellschaft (ZUG) gGmbh

In addition to Prof. Dr. Gesine Grande as chairperson of the five-member board, Prof. Dr. Gerhard Kahmen, Leibniz Institute for Innovative Microelectronics, was elected vice-chairperson and Prof. Dr. Uwe Riedel, German Aerospace Center, Institute of Low-Carbon Industrial Processes, was elected treasurer of the Lausitz Science Network. Further board members are: Prof. Dr. Mario Ragwitz, head of the Fraunhofer-IEG as well as Dr. Harry Lehmann, head of the Power-to-X Lab Lausitz. In addition to Prof. Dr. Uwe Riedel, the founding event was also attended by Andreas Peter, Site Manager of the Eastern Sites, and Prof. Dr. Lars Enghardt, Institute for Electrified Aerospace Propulsion Systems, on behalf of DLR.
