Visit from the USA: Prof. Dr. John M. Horack visits the Institute of Space Systems
We were delighted that Dr. John Horack paid us a visit on October 15, 2025 during his tour of Germany.
As holder of the Neil Armstrong Chair in Aerospace Policy at Ohio State University and with professorships in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering and public affairs, he is one of the leading international experts in the field of aerospace policy and systems.

Prof. Horack is no stranger to DLR: In his previous role at Teledyne Brown Engineering, he was the central point of contact for collaboration on the ISS platform MUSES and the DESIS hyperspectral instrument installed there.
After a presentation of our current research work and an intensive exchange with the institute directors Prof. Dr. Andreas Rittweger and Uwe Knodt, we gave Prof. Horack a tour of our laboratories - a visit that opened up exciting insights and new points of contact.
He then went on to Bremerhaven, where the German Emigration Center hosted the DAH Space Night as part of the U.S. Speaker Program.
In front of over 80 enthusiastic guests, Prof. Horack gave an inspiring keynote entitled 👉 "How did we get to where we are? History, Pioneering Achievements and Future Prospects".
The evening was complemented by two exciting presentations from our institute:
- Dr. Martin Sippel: Interplanetary travel - With which rockets?
- Dipl.-Ing. Claudia Philpot: Emigrating to the moon/Mars? - EDEN LUNA as a technology and science demonstrator
Thank you, dear John, for your visit, the enriching exchange and the joint event! We look forward to continuing our collaboration!
