ENDORSE is involved in the user-driven creation of so-called ‘downstream services’ for the renewable energies sector of the European Union’s Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) Programme. Based on the GMES services for land, atmosphere and security, specific applications will be developed together with users from the fields of solar energy, wind energy, distributed power networks, bioenergy and daylighting for buildings. DLR participates through DFD and the Institute of Technical Thermodynamics in preliminary work in support of the siting and yield forecasting of concentrating solar power plants, the integration of growing numbers of photovoltaic systems in existing electricity networks, mapping biomass potential in forested areas, and certifying sustainable bioenergy production on a global scale with the help of satellite observations.
