Sentinel-5P: MPC - CCN5

03/2021 – 12/2021

In MPC CCN5, DLR IMF-ATP is testing and adapting the TROPOMI/S5P Level-2 UPAS algorithms following the update of S5P Level-1 product to Version 2 (L1 v2). For his a representative S5P L1 v2 test dataset was processed, the L2 algorithms were updated and the results verified the L2 data to be of expected quality.

Finally, support for prosEO (being developed at DFD) has to be performed, i.e. preparation of docker containers; support during the UPAS integration in prosEO; support for the verification of selected UPAS test products generated with prosEO.
The measurements from TROPOMI on S5P show that the ozone hole in 2020 has reached its maximal size of ca. 25 million square kilometres black dots on the right plot). The ozone hole covers most of the Antarctic continent and its size far xceeds the average (GOME-2/Metop measurements) of the past en years (dark grey area on the right mage).

The UPAS algorithms for the Copernicus operational products O3, Clouds, O2, HCHO and tropospheric ozone ere adapted to the new TROPOMI L1 product. The resulting UPAS version 22.1 was delivered to ESA and will beused operationally in Q3/2021.
